Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted here. That having been said, I have made a decision to sort of move on from this journal.
Honestly, it's just because I'm sort of tired of the username (hopefully I'll be changing all my stuff labeled mayoroftardtown). I came up with it when I was 15 and have had the same handle for almost everything for the last 5 years. It usually gets a laugh from everyone the first time they hear it, but it's just not funny anymore.
Also, I never really post much of anything. I haven't participated in any communities in a while, partly for lack of constant internet, and partly just because I haven't been very productive at all lately. I'm hoping to change that, but with more original stuff than fan-stuffs. Hopefully I'll be able to make myself get up and start doing something, and eventually post art or photos or stories or whatever on there. HOPEFULLY.
This doesn't mean I'm bahleeting this journal, though. I sort of like having this one to keep up with certain fandoms and rant about comics and Doctor Who
. So, I'll keep this one for that, and for posting any fannish things I may do. It may be few and far-between, but at least this will be here in case. If you friend the new LJ, however, it would be good to note that I will most likely not speak of fandom or this journal on it, in an effort to keep RL and fandom separate. I'd just prefer not to have to explain some of the stuff on this journal to certain people. You guys know the drill.
So, anyone interested in friending the new LJ, the username is lochnessmelissa
. Enjoy. :D
So, it's been what? A month? Two? Yeah, I haven't updated in a looooong fucking time. What have I done in that time? Let's seeee...
Visited my mom, came back, stressed some, broke up with Shannon (sorta what I was stressing over), etc. Luckily, he was really understanding and is still one of my best friends. And it wasn't that he did anything wrong, or I did anything wrong, or anything like that. I think I just sort of moved in with him way too quickly, on the basis of potential love, but it turned out to be just the friendship type of love...I'm sure plenty of you guys have been there. :\
Needless to say, I can't stay with him long-term anymore (well, I could, but it'd end up just being more awkward and financially stressful on both of us). Went and talked to my dad, who, in not quite so many words, basically said he doesn't have room for me and what were we going to do with the car, which I obviously can't afford. Yeah. And there's no way I'd impose on my brothers, who have enough issues of their own without having to worry about taking care of their little sister while they're at it...
So, I'm going to live with my mom in Hope Mills, North Carolina. Honestly, I probably would have chosen that over living with my dad anyway, because him and my stepmother make me a bit uncomfortable for any stretch of time beyond a few hours. Plus. no rent, getting to spend time with my sister and family that I haven't even met yet, and my mom's giving me her old car. I feel that that situation is the clear winner. Of course, I'll miss everyone in Alabama, but I really feel like this is going to be best for me right now. I'm moving this Saturday.
Also, bought a sexy lime green iPod Shuffle because they're awesome, and a kickass bike. It's a boys' mountain bike, but it's comfortable and fast dammit! I've been going up to the track at Jeff State to ride laps for the last week and then today I finally looked at the rules and realized that I've been breaking them. LOL. Nobody seems to care, though. In fact, it's mostly older people that walk the track and I think they're more amused by it than anything.
Also, considering taking up knitting thanks to victoria_wayne
. SCARF HOOOO.
I'm on my sister's computer right now. I am going back to Alabama tomorrow and apparently my computer has crashed again, this time for no apparent reason, and I'm either going to have to buy a new computer or a new hard drive. Therefore, I may not be on for a while after getting back, depending on what it turns out to be and whether my brother can fix it again or not. Lots of pictures when I do get things straightened out though!
Wow, it's been a while since I've made a proper post. I'm not quite sure where to begin on what I've been up to, because it generally hasn't been much.
As far as work goes, I got sent to Pelham (60 miles round-trip from where I live, but I got paid mileage). Sadly, I'd much rather work there than where I am now. Everyone's a lot friendlier. Of course that may be because it's a new store and nobody's had a chance to properly be an asshole yet. *shrug* Whatever. I should have a pretty decent check this week from that. After I get back from seeing my mom, I'm gonna try and work more.
Also, extremely excited about DragonCon
, are you coming? I understand if you're not since it's short-notice now. Sorry I hadn't told you details sooner, but we've just pegged down the details ourselves. We're going with the crazy plan of getting up at 2am Saturday and driving to Atlanta to stand in line to get in early, hanging around and doing con stuff, then going home some relatively early time Saturday night because I have to be on a plane to North Carolina at 9am Sunday morning. So it's probably not going to be as epic as it would be if we were staying all four days, but I'm still excited about my first sci-fi/comic/anime con!
I'm thinking about going in (lame) costume as a hitchhiker, as in The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy
. This would consist of me wearing some beat-up jeans, old Converse, and a t-shirt that says something like "Don't Panic" or "Hoopy Frood" and running around with a towel and a messenger bag. This would be convenient for carrying stuff around, too, so it's pretty likely that I'll do it. I was also thinking of going in a pinstripe suit and foofing my hair and going as the Doctor but I don't own a pinstripe suit and I don't have any money since I just bought a $195 plane ticket, so I may just do that next year so I can do it properly.
AND AND AND JACKSON PUBLICK AND DOC HAMMER ARE GONNA BE THERE. THE GUYS WHO CREATED VENTURE BROS. I AM EXCITED BEYOND EXCITEMENT. OMFG. I feel like I should make them something neat but I don't know what. Ideas?
Theeeeen after that I get to get up super-early and possibly let airline workers poke through my stuff so that I can get on a plane and fly to North Carolina to see my mom and my little sister who I haven't seen at all in more than a year. OMG HAPPINESS. My sister was like my partner in crime when she was still here and I miss my mom so I'm soooooo happy about this trip. I'll be staying for two weeks (August 31-September 16) and taking TONS of pictures. Sandra and I will hopefully stay up all night and watch House and Doctor Who and Venture Bros and do other nerdy things together. I'll also be spending AWKWARD FAMILY TIME with all the aunts and uncles and cousins who I haven't seen in 12 years and my 82-year-old grandmother. Yay!
Now I just have to concetrate on making this week go by as fast as possible.
I just realized how few icons and screencaps there seem to be for Scream of the Shalka
, so I, having nothing better to do, capped and iconned a bunch of these.
I made about 150 caps, so there'll probably be more when I get time. There's a couple of them that I really like that I don't really expect anyone else to want though (like the "bunch of penny jelly snakes" one) but oh, well. Labor of love. If anyone else who's seen SotS has any requests, feel free to say so and I'll see what I can do.
Also, normally I don't care so much about credit and such but I'd really appreciate comments and
credit on these, since I actually went to all the trouble of capping the pictures these come from. Thanks.
So I got bored and made various Doctor Who
icons. I don't claim them as masterpieces (hur hur) or anything, but it was fun so here they are. A few from The Sound of The Drums
, and Last of the Time Lords
, some from Classic Who, some from a DW comic from Doctor Who Magazine
, and a couple from Scream of the Shalka.
Wow, I didn't realize there were that many of them. Comments are nice but not necessary. Same goes with crediting: as long as you don't run around all willy-nilly on LJ saying you made them, I really don't care what you do. Feel free to add textor whatever too. Please do credit on the animated ones, though. I quite like those.
So I changed my layout. It's Fivey and Ainley!Master, since Doctor Who has devoured my very soul. This'll probably be my layout for a long time now, because CSS is a true pain in the ass. Made the header myself. If anyone ever wants to use it, feel free. Just comment and let me know.
I had a crappy day today. Woke up sick (probably a sinus infection), put Ninja out and then couldn't find him, couldn't make myself do anything because my head feels like it'll explode. I tried to draw stuff but it didn't turn out well at all. So all I ended up doing was playing with photoshop and making some graphics. Woo, fun.
I am seriously fucking tired.
Good night, el-jay.
This is a celebrity-guest cooking show in England, for those of you who haven't seen these clips before. I was gonna embed it, but I didn't want to.
I clicked for David Tennant. I stayed for his dad
OMG. Their corny jokes: EXTERMINATE HUR HUR HUR. And DT geeking at them about the Doctors. Also, I have no idea what any of them is doing because I can't cook for shit. BUT DAVID TENNANT'S DAD. WATCH HIM, HE IS SO ADORABLE. Haha after the first clip I didn't even care that David Tennant was on, I just wanted them to interview his dad some more.
Little old Scottish guys who can cook like crazy = AWESOME. Confession: I was fangirling at Peter Davison before I found this.
ETA: I also finished reading Rant
. I can has discussion, pls? Anyone? kafuness, mebbe?

MayorOfTardTown (7:45:06 AM): They had no choice, they were coerced into their cuteness.
MayorOfTardTown (7:45:41 AM): Sixth Doctor, I dunno what happened with him.
